A Matter of Principle

James Stark is an English artist primarily known for his work in oils (although his total output includes etchings, watercolors and pencil and chalk drawings). His landscape paintings often depict woodland scenes.

Many feature windmills.

Stark wrote On the moral and political influence of the Fine Arts, criticizing those who were apparently indifferent towards the financial plight of Artists.

About the Author

James Starke is a nom de plum through which the author is better able to use literary license to give fictionalized accounts of actual historical events, complete with fictional characters who, while based on people who are real, are deserving of their own pseudonyms.

In a sense, Mr. Starke is himself a fiction.

ABOUT REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE

Jim Stark is the title character (played by legendary actor James Dean) in the 1955 American classic coming-of-age film Rebel Without a Cause which delves into the instinctual nature of youth to be in conflict with established (and often defective) parental control.

The title, as well as the film itself, implies that unbounded rebelliousness can be destructive.
